Over the past year at Cygnia, we’ve been working closely with local secondary schools across Northampton, recruiting young students in the area who are in search of paid flexible work.
The opportunity is all about offering young people the experience they need to begin a career in logistics.
As part of the “Cygnet” scheme, we are currently employing over 40 young people, aged between 16 and 18 years old, offering a mixture of work. This includes ecommerce picking, stock replenishment, as well as experience working on assembly lines in packing production.
With a focus on the future career prospects of these young employees, Cygnia’s head of HR, Sharon Hacker, says:
“The goal is to provide young people with an insight into fulfilment and logistics, offering a potential gateway into a career in the sector."
“The programme is also designed to help young people gain good general work experience, improving skills, such as time management and problem solving. These will be essential throughout their working lives, regardless of the sector they find themselves in.
At the same time, we appreciate the importance of ensuring that working at Cygnia doesn’t detract from their education. The working hours for our young employees are all flexible, mostly taking place outside of term time so that their studies are not impeded.”
